Computer Science and other Concentrations
| . | Math Skills Are CriticalCalifornia students continue to struggle with math proficiency, showing little improvement since the pandemic-induced learning losses. As of 2025, only 35.5% of students meet grade-level standards in mathematics, which is still below pre-pandemic levels. The situation is particularly dire for 11th graders, with just 27.9% meeting state math standards, and even more severe for students of color, where passage rates for Latino, African American, and Native American students were all below 14.1% in the 2023-2024 academic year. These persistent challenges in math proficiency have raised concerns about long-term impacts on students' future earnings and career prospects. |

Solid algebra skills, particularly in linear algebra and large matrices, are crucial for students pursuing computer science, especially those interested in deep learning AI models. Linear algebra forms the backbone of many advanced computer science applications, providing essential tools for data representation, algorithm design, and problem-solving. Mastery RIGHT NOW really matters. High school math and science courses are merely the starting point for future careers in scientific fields. As technology rapidly advances, simply passing these subjects is no longer sufficient. By the time today's high school students graduate college, the job market will demand expertise far beyond basic proficiency. That is why all new Cambrian Academy students begin with a solid math review based on our experience of the typical concept gaps we have have observed over the course of many years. |

Graduating with a Concentration
We help students discover their interests, and when we know a student's potential futue major, we have a variety of special paths that can be taken. These customized paths include a combination of UC approved "Foundation" classes, AP Classes, College Dual-Enrollment classes, and internships that allow students to graduate with a Concentration in Computer Science, Biochemistry, Engineering, Business, and Zoology. (with more to come, as needed) It is this focus, combined with other methods, that propels our graduates directly into their desired majors and allows many of them to complete college in three years instead of four or five. |
